London, J Stockdale [and others], 1791. 12mo, pp xii, 300, with adverts on last leaf verso, 4 engraved plates, including frontispiece, bound in contemporary sheep, rubbed and worn at corners, sometime plainly rebacked, the inner joints cracked, gathering slightly proud but generally sound and clean to the text, a good working copy.

SECOND EDITION, re-issue of the first of 1787. A collection of stories and dialogues from Berquin's books also published by Stockdale, and with an important introduction discussing the moral effects of children's literature and condeming the 'dastardly or superstitious, Ghosts, witches, wishing-caps and such extravagant machinery...so many delusive lights...'. The work is dedicated to 'Sunday School' Raikes.
