Dealer Notes
FIRST EDITION; Curll evidently commissioned Jodocus Crull to abridge L'Estrange's 1702 folio translation of Josephus, and write a continuation. He was thus able to advertise an edition of Josephus at a fraction of the cost of L'Estrange's with the added bonus of a historical continuation. Jodocus Crull, who may have been a German immigrant, but is otherwise obscure though active at this time, went on to write a number of historical works and translations for Curll, and probably died about 1713. Whatever its merits as a work - and this unrestored copy leaves somewhat to be desired, binding wise - it is a scarce set, especially complete with the plan of old Jerusalem present.
