Book Description

85x57mm. Small sepia toned photograph. Undated. Depicting Powys as a country gentleman, in country attire and walking stick. What appears to be the Derbyshire countryside makes for a beautiful background. Signed to the reverse by what could be the photographer. Single pin mark to the top centre and right-hand side of the image, with some very slight handling marks. This is an exceptional unpublished image of the author, depicted here in approximately 1940. John Cowper Powys was an English novelist, philosopher, critic and lecturer. He was said to be the successor of Thomas Hardy due to the elemental way he evokes Wessex.
