Two University Boat Club Menus (multi-signed), 1946 & 1953

Book Description
Two A5 menus relating to the University of Oxford Boat Club. Printed on thick paper stock and folded. There is slight soiling present, and the earlier of the two has a very small tear to the bottom edge. Very good. Scarce ephemeral items. Both are hand signed by the members of the University Boat Club to on the internal and external folds. The earliest of the two, dated 30th March 1946, is from the day of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race of that year. It is signed by members of the team and coaching staff. The second relates to the club trials held in December 1953. Many members of the crew became ill following this meal, and were replaced by the B crew members shortly before the race in 1954. The ownership signature of George Jock Clapperton is present at the top of both menus. He coxed Oxford in the 1923 and 1924 races, and would go on to umpire the 1959 and 1967 races. A wonderful and remarkably scarce pair.
