Book Description

A very curious title, where an English village is populated by the descendants of the Pantomime originals; Cinderella, The Ugly Sisters, Jack (of Beanstalk fame) and others, who are compelled to relive, so far as the twentieth century will allow, the original pantomime tales. 'The Late Widow Twankey', Rachel Ferguson, Jonathan Cape, 1943, first edition. Beige cloth, with some grubbiness and darkened to the foot of the spine, corresponding to the loss here of the jacket. The jacket is unclipped with some creasing/chipping. A very decent copy of a very scarce title from the first woman to sign her articles in Punch magazine.
