The History of Bath - Extra Illustrated, Violet Stothert's Copy
Book Description
From the library of Violet Stothert, a member of the Stothert family (of Stothert and Pitt fame). Extra illustrated, including etchings, original watercolour paintings and engravings bound in. Lavishly bound in later full straight grain morocco, with gilt titles and detailing to the spine, gilt decorative borders and dentelles. All edges gilt. Very smart, with just the odd instance of light rubbing and loss to the leather, one or two minor indentations to the boards. An abrasion running across the fore edge. All edges gilt, endpapers marbled. Ownership bookplate of Violet Stothert to front pastedown. The binding is firm, and leaves are a touch age-toned, with occasional spotting and light foxing. Complete with frontispiece, folding plan and thirteen engraved plates as issued; with seventy-four additional plates bound in, being etchings, engravings, portraits and topographical and including nine in colour. Including one double page original watercolour of Bradford-on-Avon, and another single page example. A beautiful copy, extra illustrated, in a lovely binding and from the library of a prominent Bath family.
