The General Magazine and Impartial Review for 1789

Book Description
The General Magazine and Impartial Review for 1789, published by Bellamy and Robarts, London 1789. In original full leather binding size 23 by 13 cm. Spine and borders are decorated with gilt and the title and date are gold-stamped to the spine. 572 pages. A collection of the twelve Reviews of 1789 minus the Shakespeare supplements that appear not to have been bound with the monthly issues, but including a series of copper plates with views of various English scenes and portraits of famous actors and actresses. The contents of the Review include literature, reviews of books and plays, plus bulletins and articles on domestic news and foreign affairs. The 1789 edition includes news from France: "an authentic account of the revolution"; the Declaration of the Rights of Man; and observations on the slave trade. Some foxing, minor chipping to leather at head and foot of spine and some cracking between boards and spine, though the binding is sound. Overall Good condition.
