Dealer Notes
Not in AB. Woodruff’s speech was made on the occasion of the presentation of the Congressional Medal of Honor to Byrd and Floyd Bennett in recognition of their “first flight to the North Pole”. The flight, made on 9th May, 1926, has been regarded with scepticism in the years since, and the accolade of the first flight is usually given to Amundsen, Ellsworth and Nobile aboard the Norge made only 6 days later. Woodruff referred to the Norge flight in his speech, and ironically claimed that the two flights “confirmed Peary’s findings”.
