Book Description

Twenty volumes, complete. Contemporary tree calf boards, neatly rebacked with the original spines having been laid down. Gilt decorations to spine, orig. morocco spine labels (vol viii with later replacement), gilt titles and borders. Rubbing and wear to the spines commensurate with age including occasional losses, rebacked and with losses to the edges and joints. Extremities rather bumped resulting in slight losses, some smoke damage to upper edges of boards. Two books with some scratch damage to boards, see images. Marbled endpapers. Contemp. ownership inscriptions. Internally, bindings remain tight. Pages are just a touch age-toned, generally clean of spotting, some damp staining towards the bottom of the plates of vol vii. A beautiful late 18th century library set, illustrated and with the original spines and boards.
