First trade Rackham illustrated edition. Illustrated with forty tipped-in colour plates, each with tissue-guard; collated and complete. Publisher's cream cloth, gilt titles to spine and front board with pictorial inset to front board. The spine is discoloured and age-toned, with the front joint noticeably splitting, largest split approx. 3.5" long. The boards are toned towards the edges. The extremities and spine ends are bruised, the spine with one or two marks and scratches. Endpapers rather spotted, some spotting throughout, heavier on occasion. Frontispiece tipped-in illustration loose from mount but present, one plate with a small edge crease. A good first trade example.
