Book Description

Eleventh thousand. With illustrations in monochrome by John Tenniel. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with gilt titles to spine and illustrations to boards; expertly rebacked with the original spine laid down and restored. The boards are a touch discoloured with some marks and stains, and the cloth is cockling on occasion, with some loss to the cloth at the corners and edges; the spine similarly, with heavy bumping and discolouration at the spine ends. The corners are rather bumped and bruised, resulting in fraying and wear. All edges gilt. Pencil ownership inscription and a few marks to the half title page. The binding is firm owing to the restoration; pages are a touch handled and with occasional marks and spotting throughout, toning towards the edges. An smart and neatly restored early edition.
