Two full-page advertisements, with a third on the back cover. 12mo, white label ('ON VIEW') stapled to front cover, the firm's stamp and a signature dated from 'The Exchange | Calcutta 24th. February 1912’, neat ink m.s. notations for the price against each lot; folded in half horizontally, light foxing to the first leaf, last two leaves coming loose but firm overall. Stitched in the original red-printed wraps; wear around the staple binding, two closed tears and a nick to the rear wrapper.

Dealer Notes

An original auctioneers catalogue printed in Calcutta itemising the property of a judge who was selling up their pocessions before retiring to England. This is the auction house’s copy as someone has neatly annotated the prices achieved for each of 395 individual lots. This provides a fascinating insight into the items of an Anglo-Indian Edwardian house at the start of the twentieth century.

Following the terms of sale printed on the verso of the wrapper, the items commence with Cookery utensils. This is followed by nine lots of printed books, household furniture and fittings divided by each room. The items vary immensely, ranging from ‘A CURRY Stone with muller' ('-/8/- lot’)’, 'a Standard Square Pianoforte by Schiedmayer and Soehne Stuttghart in mahogany case resting on four supports' ('125/- lot’) and even a 'Sausage Making Machine’.
