A cartoon map of Ireland published by the St. Stephen’s Review, London June 23rd 1888. On paper size 53 by 36 cm. Colour. The St. Stephen’s Review was a short-lived Conservative periodical, strongly opposed to Irish Home Rule, and Merry/Mecham a cartoonist who produced several satirical centre-spread lithographs for the paper. The “hag of Hawarden” was Gladstone, Liberal leader and four times Prime Minister, who had become a convert to Irish Home Rule. Merry/Mecham seems to have had another career as a music hall perfomer as Tom Merry, Lighning Cartoonist according to Wikipedia! Has had one central fold. VG
