Annotated typescript for H. M. Tomlinson's introduction to Melville's 'Pierre, or the Ambiguities' with ALS to the publisher

Book Description
Typescript: 265x205mm. Eight leaves, with a split-pin to the top-left. As submitted to the publisher, Constable & Co. in 1928. About 3300 words, noted in the author's hand to the front page. Profusely annotated by H. M. Tomlinson throughout, correcting or augmenting the typescript. The first page contains over forty words or corrections in Tomlinson's hand alone. A considerate and articulate introduction, and an insight into Tomlinson's working methods – this is a unique offering.
ALS: 205x159mm. To Constable & Co. publishers. Single sheet. Headed at 85 Waddon Rd. Croydon and dated Dec 3 28. Stamped for the publisher's records 4 Dec 1928. Creased from folding for delivery, and with some staple rust, but otherwise fine: 'Messrs Constable & Co. London Dear Sir The Pierre introduction herewith. I have been through it. Many thanks. Would you please ask Messrs Dutton to send me 4 copies of the edition into which it will go presumably their Everyman. Yours faithfully H. M. Tomlinson'
H. M. Tomlinson typescripts, or even handwritten letters, are a growing rarity, with the majority existing in private collections or institutional archives. The letter to the publisher of this Melville re-issue, which here accompanies the typescript, is a genuine scarcity.
