Book Description

London: Transatlantic Arts Ltd., 1945. First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper, designed by the author Richard Chopping, depicts several characters from the short stories here contained. There is some mild spotting to the cover and some wear at the spine tips, but it is remarkably clean for this title. It has not been price clipped (6s. net). The boards, as issued in the publisher's blue cloth, are very slightly stained to the front panel and lightly sunned at the bottom edge of the spine. Otherwise, they are presentable. The text blocks are toned due to poor paper stock, and are foxed throughout, not to an extreme manner however. Richard Chopping's signature is flat signed to the front fly leaf in black fountain pen, simply 'Richard. W. Chopping.' Overall, this is a very good copy of an exceptionally rare signed title. A small collection of short stories, written for children, which are also illustrated by Chopping. Early Richard Chopping, before his James Bond affiliations, is difficult to find more so signed by the man himself.
