First published in 1819. Pp 24 including front and rear cover wraps and the back page of adverts for other Hone publications. Re-sewn, fore edges trimmed unevenly, and a previous owner has added some ink names underneath some of the images. Overall a clean copy without tears or other major flaws. This wildly popular pamphlet was reprinted dozens of times in a few months, and it established George Cruikshank as the foremost political cartoonist of his age. The liberty of the press then, as now, was threatened by powerful political influence, and reflecting this, one of the illustrations is of a printing press. William Hone, was no stranger to the courts, having successfully defended himself three times in 1817.
