Book Description

Lebeque, J & Cie, Paris, circa 1850-70. Terrestrial pocket globe, 2 inches in diameter. Engraved gores over plaster and wooden sphere, with text in French. Metal pins with minor restoration, in a turned French walnut stand, probably original, with a fine colour and patina. The engraver is credited as J.C.B.. Lebeque et Cie were founded in Brussels in 1814, relocating to Paris in 1850. This terrestrial globe is a lovely example of a miniature pocket globe with Sydney and Melbourne shown on the continent of Nouvelle Hollande. The Antarctic Circle is marked but there is no indication of an Arctic continent. This is a rare globe, very hard to find in this fine condition. Previously listed at £2750. We have other travel related items and maps in our stock on this site.
