The Edible Woman
Book Description
A near fine first UK edition of prizewinning Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s debut novel The Edible Woman, first published in Canada by McClelland and Stewart in 1969. A self-described “protofeminist” work, the story follows a female market researcher whose consumerist world begins to lose coherence following her affair with an eccentric graduate student. Written in 1965 during the rise of the women’s movement in North America, the novel evinces Atwood’s early interest in gender, sexual politics, and consumer culture, laying the groundwork for her reputation during the 70s as one of the most important emerging voices in Canadian literature and feminism. This rare first UK edition features minimalist jacket art by famous book cover designer Kaye Bellman and is in exceptional condition, with an unclipped (£1.75) dust jacket and only minor shelf wear to the boards.
Jacket slightly decentered. Slightest shelf wear to boards and jacket spine. Small dark spot to front board, as pictured. Internally bright and clean.
