Book Description

The Deep is the debut novel from American speculative fiction writer John Crowley, best known for his 1981 fantasy novel Little, Big. The first of Crowley’s three sci-fi works from the 70s, The Deep follows a not-quite-human visitor to a medieval world torn apart by a struggle based on the English Wars of the Roses. This true first edition with jacket art by John Cayea is in very good condition and is notably scarcer than first editions of Crowley’s later work. This copy is inscribed by Crowley in calligraphy and dated 1976. Wear to top edge of jacket with minor chipping at head of spine. Open tear (3cm) to jacket foot. Internally bright and clean. Author’s dated inscription in ink to front flyleaf.
