Containing1599 The Bible, that is the Holy Scriptures (in two parts), 1599 The New Testament, a Brief Table of the interpretation of the proper names which are chiefly found in the Old Testament, and The Book of Psalmes collected into English Meeter by Thomas Sternhold, Iohn Hopkins and others (undated). Contemporary leather with rubbed gilt borders and bands to the spine; laid over later reinforced boards with the original hinges from clasped binding present (lacking clasps), smart restoration visible at the tail of the spine and corners. Boards a trifle rubbed and bowing, original leather spine cracked and dried. All edges gilt, faded. Front pastedown only with later marbled paper laid down. Renewed front endpaper, original blanks to rear. Featuring double column print. Complete with engraved half title page to The Bible and to the New Testament; illustrated with woodcut initials and vignette engravings beside. Remarkably and uncommonly clean of any ownership inscriptions to title pages or blanks, one very neat ink inscription to page 17. One or two ink spots, some occasional spotting, light damp stain to lower corner of title and half title, inscription to p.17 and intermittent damp staining to leaves, small burn mark to p. 27-28, tiny marginal wormhole to upper gutter p.171-189, stains to p. 54 & 55 of second part affecting text, damp stain to title page of New Testament, worming to the upper gutter of the Book of Psalmes. Sympathetic marginal restoration to the leaves throughout, particularly prelims. Lacks p. 91 & 92 of the Booke of Psalmes (as issued). Complete with engraved half title page to The Bible and to the New Testament; illustrated with vignette engravings beside. Remarkably and uncommonly clean of any ownership inscriptions to title pages or blanks. 190, 127, [1], 121, [16], [11]. A bright and robust example of this desirable Barker Bible.
