Book Description
THE CHRONICLER OF EUROPEAN CHIVALRY by G. G. Coulton 1930 BOUND IN A STUNNING HAND CRAFTED FULL LEATHER BINDING for E. Hollowell by K. Bradley of Manchester in 1944
This is a stunning hand-crafted full leather binding bound by a K. Bradley for a E. Hollowell of Manchester Grammar School in 1944 a beautifully illustrated book on Chivalry in Europe, the binder has decorated the binding accordingly with raised motifs of Heraldic shields, and Roses, along with other gilt embossed patterns. The binder has signed and dated the binding on the reverse along with the heraldic shield emblem of Manchester Grammar School, and his initials K.B. the binder has also written a calligraphic presentation inscription in red ink to rear endpaper the book measures 11.5 inches by 8 inches approx., 133 pages, beautifully illustrated with tipped in colour plates and many black and white illustrations within the text.
Dealer Notes
the binding does have some signs of wear with a small one inch split to the leather at joint on the base of the spine, some surface scuffs to the corners, small areas of the decoration on front board, the rear board does have some marking to the leather along with a few scuffs (see pictures) else binding is in good solid condition, internally some foxing to endpapers and light surface marks to one page of text else in good condition A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE ART OF THE BOOK BINDER
