Book Description

London: Duckworth, 1938. First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The pictorial dust jacket, illustrated by Patrick Bellew, has some surface wear, handling marks and light chipping to the spine tips. It has not been price clipped (5/- net). The pictorial paper covered boards have some slight wear, mirroring the jacket. The top edge is a trifle foxed. The author, William Fawcett, inscribes to the front fly in black ink: With the Author s | compliments | William Fawcett . Patrick Bellew illustrations throughout. Overall, this is a very good copy. Here is a book which carries with it the bubble of laughter and the sparkle of wit. An unrivalled team Tom Walls, Patrick Bellew and William Fawcett are given free rein in putting on paper something of the lighter side of [horse] racing. Works signed by Fawcett are incredibly scarce. He met his unfortunate death aged just 39, whilst serving in the Second World War with the Royal Army Service Corps.
