Printed for J. Johnson, London, 1800, 1st edition. Half leather with marbled boards. Gilt lettering on black leather patch to spine. 10.5ins x 8.5ins, viii, 612pp, 12pp index and directions plus 12 plates (2 folding). This is an ex Ipswich Public Library copy with many small discreet library stamps and one larger one to the verso of the title page. Whilst the boards are original the spine is a later replacement as are the endpapers. The text pages are generally very clean, but the plates, the preliminary pages and the index are all foxed to varying degrees. G+
Erasmus Robert Darwin (12 December 1731 – 18 April 1802) was an English physician. One of the key thinkers of the Midlands Enlightenment, he was also a natural philosopher, physiologist, abolitionist, inventor, freemason, and poet. Charles Darwin was one of his grandsons.
