Book Description

London: Chapman and Hall, 1840-41. First edition in book form, first printing. This is a very good set in original cloth. Issued in dark brown, blind stamped cloth with the titular cloth in gilt, and gilt decorations at the spine. Contemporary endpapers, tasteful in a brown marble effect. Each are illustrated throughout by George Cattermole and Hablot Browne. Some handling marks present to the boards, and some very light bumping at the spine tips also present. Immaculate text blocks to all three volumes, and the internals are markedly clean for a Dickens title of this age. Overall, this is a very good set. Master Humphrey's Clock was a publishing experiment by the author. It issued two novels together, the first being The Old Curiosity Shop and the other, Barnaby Rudge. These copies in book form were issued upon the serial was completed.
