Isaiah. A new translation (by Robert Lowth), with a preliminary dissertation, and notes critical, philological, and explanatory
Book Description
4to, iii, ,lxxiv, 174, 283, [21] p., contemporary calf, spine gilt, chipped at head of spine, short splits in hinges
Dealer Notes
First edition. Lowth's study of figurative language, continued from his De sacra poesi Hebraeorum, is an important contribution to 18th-century literary theory. A portrait is called for by ESTC. That it was never bound in here is shown by the faint offset from title to preceding blank. I do not know if it is usually found. Hathi Trust for some reason offers online versions of 9 other editions, not this first.
