Extraordinary Women: Lives, Work & Signed Copies (Feburary 2021)

We're pleased to share our new short list, 'Extraordinary Women,' comprising 15 items under the sub-headings Lives, Work and Signed Copies. The core of the material is early C20th and of suffrage, queer and medical interest, but also includes presentation copies from the library of Olwyn Hughes. Highlights include: Suffragette and aid worker Vera Jack Holme's copy of Proust's The Guermantes Way (2 vols, 1st British ed., Chatto & Windus, 1925), including the fabulous ex libris designed by Jessie M. King, and a presentation copy of Mrs St. Clair Stobart's Miracles and Adventures (1st ed., Rider & Co., 1935) inscribed to a fellow member of the Spiritualist Community.
