Book Description

8vo. Pp [iv], 342p. A rare early eighteenth century reprint of this important early spiritual text, the first since the sixteenth century, its rarity explained by the fact that Fisher came to oppose Henry VIII, and was a supporter of Catherine of Aragon, to his personal detriment. He was eventually canonised by the Catholic Church. As is common with recusant literature at the beginning of the eighteenth century, there is no printer or place given, but it is neat piece of printing. Mark to the top corner of page 284 (perhaps from a small piece of blue putty?), printing flaw to lower corner 191, occasional mark, otherwise a clean example, complete, contemporary sheep, worn spine, hinges weak, stamp of St Wilfreds, Preston (Jesuit Church) to the front pastedown. Uncommon on the market. ESTC T81045.
