Book Description

The Naval Chronicle Volume XXXIV, July to December 1815. Published by Gold, London 1816. In original stiff marbled boards leather spine with gold bands and title. Size 23.5 by 15 cm. 512 pages plus index. 12 engravings which include 5 maps and charts. Lacks engraving of John Wesley Wright listed in the index. This edition of the Chronicle features an account of Napoleon’s surrender, regulations for his custody and three detailed articles on St. Helena and news of Napoleon’s arrival. These were presumably contemporary items that would appeal to the readership. There are serialised accounts of the Naval Actions between the Ships of His Britannic Majesty and of the United States during the late war (by a British Naval Officer on the American Station) and articles on early steam vessels and many other topics. The plates are all in Good to VG condition and include views of Toulon, the North Foreland and Broadstairs, the siege of Acre and a engraving of the action off Quiberon in 1804. Some rubbing to spine, front hinge weak and corners rubbed but overall Good to VG condition.
