The History of Philosophy from Thales to Comte by George Henry Lewes, published by Longmans, Green London 1871. In two volumes. The 4th edition, corrected and partly rewritten. In a full leather binding with raised bands and gold-stamped decoration. Size 22 by 14 cm. Volume I (Ancient Philosophy) 410 pages; Volume II (Modern Philosophy) 363 pages. Dedication in ink to front endpapers of Vol. I dated 1879. Both volumes have the coat of arms of Magdalen College Oxford gold-stamped to the front board, and these were a gift from the Master and Fellows to a Edward Symons. Spines have been sympathetically relaid and the bindings restored. All edges and endpapers marbled. VG condition.
