Book Description

The English People, George Orwell, Collins, 1947, First Edition, First Impression This book was commissioned in September 1943 by W.J. Turner for the series "Britain in Pictures". The book contains twenty-five illustrations, eight of which are full-age colour plates, by Edward Ardizzone, Dame Laura Knight, L.S. Lowry, Henry Moore, John Minton and Feliks Topolski amongst others. The book is in very good condition. The binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is an indentation to the top edge of the front board, damage to the bottom edge of the first board, minor shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine, a crease mark to the top corner of the back cover and crease marks to the corners of the back cover. The toned end papers and pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. The dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in good condition with loss to all the corners, nibbling and a small tear to the top edge of the front cover, slight wear to the bottom edge of the front cover, loss to the top and bottom edges of the spine and nibbling and two tears to the top edge of the back cover. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
