A very good set of the monumental and definitive biography of Sir Winston Churchill contained in eight illustrated volumes.
Official biographers Randolph Churchill and later Sir Martin Gilbert who took up the work following Randolph's death in 1968, had full use of Sir Winston's letters and papers as well as carrying out research in the many hundred of private archives and public collections.
All the books are First Editions, First Impressions in good condition with dust jackets protected in clear, removable covers.
General description of the books (with exceptions mentioned against individual descriptions below) - Bindings are straight and tight. Boards clean with lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from tears and inscriptions. The top edges fully retains their original red tint. The unclipped dust jackets are in near fine condition.
Volume I Youth 1874 - 1900 - Heinemann 1966
The binding is straight with a little movement. There are marks to the front and back boards and the spine. There is a crease mark to the top corner of the front board. There is foxing to the for edge. The top edge fully retains its original red tint. The unclipped dust jacket has wear to all the corners, slight nibbling and some crease marks.
Volume II Young Statesman 1901 - 1914 - Heinemann 1967
Minimal foxing to the fore edge. The unclipped dust jacket has very slight nibbling to the spine and bottom edge of the back cover.
Volume III 1914 - 1916 - Heinemann 1971
The binding is straight with a little movement. The unclipped dust jacket has a tear to the bottom of the front cover, nibbling and small tears to the edges and a sunned spine.
Volume IV 1917 - 1922 - Heinemann 1975
Small white dots to the front board. Minor sunning to top edge of the spine. There is a mark to the top edge and foxing to the fore and bottom edges. The unclipped dust jacket is in near fine condition with a sunned spine.
Volume V 1922 - 1939 - Heinemann 1976
The binding is straight with a little movement. There is a mark to the front board and the spine. Foxing to the fore and bottom edges. The unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with a tear to the front return, crease marks and a sunned spine. a
Volume VI Finest Hour 1939 - 1941 - Heinemann 1983
The binding is straight with a little movement. Faint foxing to the fore and bottom edges.
Volume VII Road To Victory 1941 - 1945 - Heinemann 1986
There is foxing to the fore edge. The unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with a tear to the bottom edge of the spine.
Volume VIII "Never Despair" 1945 - 1965 - Heinemann 1988
The binding is straight with a little movement. The unclipped dust jacket is in near fine condition with a tear to the bottom edge of the front cover.
We have described fully (warts and all) . However this is a good set and would be a fine addition to a collection or library.
Will be dispatched, fully insured and carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
