Third impression. Bound in full navy calf by in a signed binding by Zaehnsdorf, neatly rebacked. All edges gilt. Gilded pictorial depiction of Rip Van Winkle to the front board. With the original front cover and spine bound in to the rear. Some light loss to the edges of the original morocco spine labels, boards occasionally discoloured and scratched, gilding a little faint. Ownership bookplate of H. G. and G. M. Spicer; Henry Gage Spicer was a business tycoon, owning a large paper manufacturer. A few light losses to the paper at the pastedowns and endpapers. Tape reinforcement to verso of frontispiece, and to verso of front and rear endpaper. Binding is tight. Pages are occasionally a little spotted, but generally remaining clean. Illustrated with fifty-one tipped in colour plates; collated and complete. A lovely Zaehnsdorf bound Arthur Rackham work, from the library of a prominent early 20th century paper businessman.
