Book Description
London: The Hogarth Press, 1949. This is a very good (or better) copy. The Duncan Grant dust jacket is clean throughout, with some small closed tears present. The top and tail of the spine have little loss. It has been neatly price clipped. The original publisher’s cloth is slightly bumped, but sharp – the gilt motif bright. The pink top stain is slightly faded. This copy is free from inscriptions and is, overall, in very good (or better) condition.
An important work of mid 20th century lesbian literature. Published anonymously, this has since been revealed as the only novel of Dorothy Bussy (Nee Strachey), a member of the Bloomsbury group and the sister of the writer and critic Lytton Strachey. Viewed as scandalous upon initial publication, and set in the late 19th century at a finishing school in France. The work is dedicated to Bussy's friend, Virginia Woolf.
