Dealer Notes
First edition. The documentary-maker and military historian Malcolm Brown (1930-2017) first became interested in T.E. Lawrence in the early 1960s, when he co-produced the television documentary ‘T.E. Lawrence 1888-1935’ (1962) for the BBC, and he went on to publish a number of books on Lawrence, including A Touch of Genius: the Life of T.E. Lawrence, co-written with Julia Cave (London, 1988), The Letters of T.E. Lawrence (London, 1988), and T.E. Lawrence (London, 2003). Brown’s Lawrence of Arabia: the Life, the Legend was published to accompany the major Imperial War Museum exhibition of the same title (2005-2006).

This copy was formerly in the library of the distinguished Lawrence scholar Jeremy Wilson, the editor of T.E. Lawrence’s Minorities (London, 1971) and the author of the National Portrait Gallery catalogue T.E. Lawrence: Lawrence of Arabia (London, 1988) and the authoritative biography Lawrence of Arabia: the Authorised Biography of T.E. Lawrence (London, 1989), of which the last is listed in Brown’s ‘Further Reading’ on p. 205. Wilson and Brown served as the joint historical advisers to the Imperial War Museum for the exhibition ‘Lawrence of Arabia: the Life, the Legend’, and Brown expressed his gratitude to Wilson in the ‘Acknowledgements’ (p. 205). ¶¶
