Folding map frontispiece, and 28 further attractive plates, showing coastal views, antiquities, map of Tehran, Persian on horseback, route back to Amasya, and so on. Second journey: pp xix (i) (-i-ii). Half-title not bound in. Frontis, and eighteen further plates, as listed, including four hand-coloured, and 47 illustrations to text (Sculptured rock at Shapor bound opposite page 50). Bound in attractive uniform near-contemporary half-calf on marbled boards, contrasting labels, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Armorial bookplate of S E Widdrington, Newton Hall to front paste-down of both volumes. A most attractive set. WITH ALS TIPPED INTO THE FLYLEAF OF THE SECOND JOURNEY, reading Dear Sir William Pray accept my grateful thanks for your very valuable book, & permit me to request your acceptance of my second volume. Author signed copies of Morier are rather rare on the market. Altogether a most attractive set of one of the most insightful of all the Near Eastern travel books.
