Little Dorrit, with illustrations by H. K. Browne
Book Description
First edition. Bound from the parts. Collated complete and correct. Pp xiv, 625. Engraved title page, frontis and plates by Phiz (H K Browne) present as listed (including the so-called dark plates). Contemporary half morocco gilt with raised bands, on green cloth boards, pale yellow endpapers, all edges gilt. Small binder's mark "JEFFERIES, BINDER, ANGEL CT, SKINNER ST, [?] B. G." to top front pastedown. (Presumably the B.G stands for Bishopsgate). A very little foxing or toning to plates, very clean text, bright binding. Textual points: Rigaud instead of Blandois to Chapter SV (indicating the earlier issue). Other indications of early textual state: Fidgetty to page 265, Diceing to page 360, signature is B2 on page 371 (see Smith Vol 1 91-95).
Dealer Notes
Very much less marking and foxing than is commonly found, in an exactly contemporary, and solid binding, all the more interesting from being from a named binder. Would happily form part of a collection of Dicken's first editions.
