Created in 1914 when the dye works was being sold off at auction, this is a fascinating 164 page hand typed inventory of the contents of the whole of the Spring Water Dyeworks in Romiley, Manchester, listing all of the factory machinery, engines, tools, office furniture etc, done room by room with an accompanying plan of the works and a reference index to each part of the factory. Bound in a leather bound binding measuring 13 inches tall approx., also loosely inserted in a small list of items not included in the main book.
Apart from some rubbing wear to covers, book is in very good general condition.
Spring Water Dye Works business was primarily centred on the bleaching and dyeing cotton and later, man-made fibres. Established around 1827, the works was in operation for over a century, evolving from a focus on natural dyes to incorporating synthetic dyes.
