Written in May 1962 by Dillwyn Brian Jones, (1924-2010) who was a former teacher at Madeley C. of E. and Morville Schools, this is an original typescript illustrated work titled “Growing up in the Madeley Area” centred on the Shropshire town of Madeley and taking in the surrounding places of Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale, looking at what these places were like for children to grow up in, with work opportunities, leisure activities, health and social issues, with a strong emphasis on education, etc, in both the past and present, The book was done while he was studying at The Institute of Education in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962, running to over 250 pages including 24 pages of illustrations, newspaper clippings, and other ephemera, including some original photographs, with detailed contents pages, acknowledgements, etc, bound into green cloth covers, 11.25 inches tall approx . unfortunately, the author has used Sellotape to fix the illustrations in place, this has noticeably browned at the edges, else the book is in good condition
