GREEN, F.W. Manuscript album of science and engineering drawings in pencil in an artist’s sketchbook sold by Hawes of Bayswater, recently rebacked. Pp 58 used, with other blanks. “F W.Green September 16th 1884 Thornfield” in pencil on the front free endpaper.The drawings are largely fairly competent sketch diagrams, and include telescopes, a direct vision spectroscope, [a device for the rapid qualitative examination of composition of emission and absorption spectra], a lathe, steam locomotives, a bisulphate of Carbon prism, electric cells, an early light bulb diagram, the 24 inch reflector telescope at Greenwich Observatory, dreadnought battleships, cranes, a spectrum diagram, a beam engine, mounted lenses, and an alphabet of signal flags in colour. An interesting album of Victorian science and engineering.
