A Puritan addresses a cat hung from a tree with urchins and other commentators standing around. Woodcut and letterpress. Imprimatur trimmed from this print. Approx 36.5 cm x 28.5 cm. The print is currently mounted on an album leaf, but could be removed professionally.The British Museum has a copy, with the Museum number 1868,0808.11102. The subject of the print is the proposed “Observance of the Sabbath” Bill, and the same theme occurs in Richard Brathwait’s “ Drunken Barnaby’s Four Journeys to the North of England”. There is a lithographic version of the same print , which lacks the text above the image. A rare print.
