Dunlop Literary Maps of England and Scotland
Book Description
Dunlop Literary Maps of England and Scotland. A set of six maps published by Dunlop, London 1950. Each is in the form of a folding booklet with a combination of images, text and a map opening to 56 by 24 cm., with the featured map measuring 24 by 23 cm. The maps take up a complete side of the publication when folded, with text and more images to the reverse. The set comprises a Map of Central London with its literary associations by Xensa; The West Country by Denys Nicholls; Shakespeare Country; Scotland by Maurice Laban; The Lake Distict by J R Hart; and The West Country. The London map shows the homes and occasionally the burial places of famous writers from Chaucer to Wells and Kipling, plus some theatres, museums and the site of the 1951 Festival of Britain. Every map is in the unique style of each individual artist yet all have in common a post-war optimism that has echoes of the spirit of the 1951 Festival. All maps and text in VG condition, the card folder with wear to spine
