The 1874 transit of Venus was observed by several British expeditions based in Egypt (Thebes, Suez), Hawaii (headed by Captain Tupman, in Honolulu, and others at Waimea on Kauai), Rodriguez in the Indian Ocean, “Kerguelen’s Land” (led by the Jesuit priest S. J. Perry), and New Zealand. After a brief introduction, Airy’s report offers observations in the forms of tables and diagrams from each of the observing stations.
