Book Description

8vo, 22 x 14.5cm. First Edition 1953. Bound in original decorative boards with dust jacket, not price clipped. Jacket with slight edge wear & foxing. Text in very good clean condition, with errata slip. Warmly inscribed by the author with three original photographs, presumably of the author and his friends drinking champagne. “Mr. Mackintosh is the greatest living exponent of the art, every bit as elegant, dexterous and amusing as his great predecessors. His ballades have appeared in countless periodicals and anthologies, but this is their first appearance all together in one book”
Dealer Notes
Interestingly this comes with two handwritten, original, signed risqué ballades. One on ‘Dixcart Hotel Sark’ headed notepaper.
Also a handwritten, signed, real photographic postcard of Sark, dated 1954.
Three further typescript ballades (two signed), one dated 1949.
The entertaining ephemera within reveals much about the author’s character.
