This map derives from 'The Encyclopedia Cambrensis' or 'Y Gwyddoniadur Cymreig', which was the most ambitious encyclopedia in the Welsh language. It was published in 10 volumes between 1854 and 1879 by Thomas Gee at his own printer's office in the town of Denbigh, Gwasg Gee. The general editor was his brother-in-law, John Parry who was also a lecturer at the College of Bala. It remains the largest paper publication in the Welsh language.
The project cost to Gee was c £20,000, equivalent to £2,600,000.- in 2023.
