Book Description

Early (4th) edition of this early children's chapbook written by Mrs Sherwood. "The Re-captured Negro" tells the story of an free slave in Sierra Leone who is recaptured by traders to be sold again into slavery. Written very much for the sunday school audience at a time of great zeal for abolitionism, this tract is an early example of anti-slavery literature for the broader market In its original binding in very good condition. Hard boards and original red spine. Bumps to corners and a few stains but much better condition than these childrens books are often found in. One of the more important and relevant titles in the series.
