Women’s Role In The Chinese Cultural Revolution
Book Description
An unusually explicit Red China poster, advertising adult products (birth control?), which dates to after 1969. Produced by The People’s Fine Art House. The approximate size 20 ½ x 29 ¾ in. The print is after a painting by an unknown artist, an unusual image, especially when such material appeared under the hardline Maoist aesthetic in the Cultural Revolution, although sexual life in a family setting was not apparently proscribed. In rough translation the headline apparently reads “Who is my companion ?“ which might suggest a warning against taking unknown sexual companions. The design, with the naked female, red clothing, embroidered ball, and water, apparently represents love, and sexual passion. Sold as a decorative poster as we are unsure of the originality of the work. We haven’t found another copy of this poster online.
