Dealer Notes
The annotations are mostly additional grammatical information, and neat and detailed. One possibility is that this was used as a text book in Newman s lessons, and Martha, the student, added notes. Either way, a very interesting and rare item, showing how a women student was learning at the time. Selig Newman was a distinguished Jewish educator in Britain, who taught at the Jewish Free School, and at the University of Oxford. He eventually emigrated to the US, where he continued to teach, dying in 1871.
