Book Description

Privately printed for Douglas Cleveland No. XVII of XXIII large paper copies. 19.3 x 24.2 cm bound in brown niger morocco by John R. Grey and Son Ltd, with a gilt monogram to the front made after an engraving by Stephen Gooden; unpaginated 25 tissue-guarded leaves with poems engraved on copper by Charles Sigrist on one side only, the title-page being a proof signed by the artist. Signed and numbered by Sassoon to the Colophon at the rear. Laid in are a proof copy of the prospectus/proposal indicating that the original price for the book was £6-6-0, together with a list of the 3 different styles of this limited edition and, oddly, a receipted Douglas Cleverdon bill for £12-12-0 for one of the 8 vellum copies.
