Un An à Rome et dans ses Environs, Recueil de Dessins Lithographiés, Représentant les costumes, les usages & les cérémonies civiles et religieuses des États Romains, et généralement tout ce que l’on y voit de remarquable pendant d’une année.
Book Description
A deluxe limited folio facsimile of Antoine-Jean-Baptiste Thomas's celebrated Un an à Rome et dans ses environs, issued in Rome in 1972 by Gabriele and Mariateresa Benincasa. This numbered copy (No. 383) is complete with the full suite of plates in both states - 72 colour and 72 monochrome - together with 44 pages of text, each plate protected by its original ajoining tissue guard and housed in the publisher's half-leather Solander case. A superbly produced and increasingly sought-after modern facsimile of an important early nineteenth-century Roman work.
Thomas was a French painter and lithographer (1791-1834) who produced the original album of Rome views, costumes, usages and ceremonies in 1822.

A fine copy overall of this very impressive work.
The outer solander case is of substantial, and strong, construction; half leather with raised bands and gilt titles. With fabric over boards (almost a wood-like appearance to the design). Box with a few minor marks and light bumps.
Interior pages are in fine condition and all present as called for. Title leaf with the publisher’s address corrected in contemporary manuscript to ‘Nouvelle adresse, rue St-Lazare’, an issue-state correction typical of works issued in livraisons. Slight top right marginal edge crease to this page.
A very smart set indeed.
