Bentley, Blake Books, 469. A very pleasantly mellow copy, with the fine engraved bookplate of George Wragge, and his inscription on the title-page, “G. Wragge - Windsor - Oct. 21st 1807. or Six days after the Marriage.” Wragge married Emma Ingleby at Cheadle, on 15 October, 1807. Their child, Clement Ingleby Wragge, was born around 1814.
This is the first appearance of the Blake / Flaxman illustrations of Hayley’s poem, first published in 1781.
George Wragge, entrepreneur and partner in the Cheadle Brass Company, married Emma Ingleby at Cheadle, in 1807. Their grandson, Clement Ingleby Wragge, founded the Meterological Society of Australia in 1887 (see ODNB).
